The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), a leading university focused exclusively on health, boasts some of the most talented and innovative life science researchers in the world. To highlight the experiences and accomplishments of these scientists, the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) at UCSF has created LaunchPad, a tool to support translational researchers in efforts to develop beneficial medical products and services.
The motivation for LaunchPad arose from experiences with the Catalyst Awards program, a CTSI support mechanism that fosters early interaction between product development experts and UCSF researchers. The Catalyst Awards program is a resource for identifying challenges and opportunities, and supporting critical milestones in the development of diagnostics, devices, therapeutics and digital health innovations at UCSF. Interactions awardees highlighted the need to provide a venue for translational researchers to both share and benefit from insights into the tools and resources offered by the program.
LaunchPad project planning began with discussions that included a wide range of UCSF researchers and administrators to understand their experiences with translational research and how they access resources online. These interactions led to the development of a unique, video-based web resource that showcases the experiences of UCSF researchers and administrators, as well as industry experts, in their own words. As this resource continues to evolve, it will be supplemented with helpful tools and resources that allow researchers to evaluate their own projects and reach out for assistance.
The vision for LaunchPad is that it will continue to expand and serve as a valuable showcase for the tremendously talented and passionate translational researchers at UCSF, as well as a platform for researchers access to access for resources available to them from CTSI and other groups at UCSF, including the Office of Innovation Technology and Alliances (ITA) and the California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences (QB3).
We hope you find it to be a useful resource. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to share feedback and to let us know how this tool can be improved. To stay informed about updates of videos and resources, please sign up for email updates.
