Moving a product into clinical practice is rewarding but the path to get there is not always clear. Dr. Clay Johnston, Professor, Associate Vice Chancellor of Research and the Director of CTSI at UC San Francisco, discusses the need for both expert advice and funding to ensure successful product development. The Catalyst Awards Program addresses this need, by using a novel combination of private-public partnerships and seed funding to support the most promising innovations at UC San Francisco. Dr. Johnston further explains that while the funding and advice are critical, key partnerships established during the Catalyst Awards process are the most helpful in supporting long-term translation to beneficial products.
